Project Sarurun is a grassroots campaign project that uses the power of art and social media to bring change to the lives of children affected by war. The main focus of this project is to create chandeliers, each made from 1,000 paper cranes, to represent the accumulated hopes of people who wish to work together to bring peace and well being to children trapped in conflicts around the world. Chandeliers are auctioned upon completion and all proceeds go towards a charity that works toward a similar cause.
We help our charities in any way we can, such as providing advice and resources to help them grow. We use our network to encourage active participation in the chandelier project and contributing to our selected non-profit. In the future we will utilize social media and our website to create a unique international development experience, whereby volunteers and small NGOs can collaborate in real time on project development and adapt the project as it progresses!
The name Sarurun (meaning 'marsh') comes from Sarurun Kamui ('the God of the Marsh'), an Ainu name of the Japanese red-crowned cranes these paper cranes are modeled after.
